Federal Polytechnic Ilaro Courses and Admission Criteria
Federal Polytechnic Ilaro Courses and Admission Criteria
Decree No. 33 of July 25, 1979, established the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro. On November 15, 1979, the Polytechnic began accepting students at a temporary location offered by its host community, the historic town of Ilaro, Ogun State. The Anglican Grammar School property in Ilaro, which is a half-kilometer from the intersection of the townships of Ilaro, served as the Polytechnic’s inaugural location.
The Polytechnic remained at this temporary location until 1983, when it moved to its current location, which is roughly three kilometers from Ilaro Township along the Ilaro/Oja-Odan Road. Moreover, Idiroko, a Nigerian border town with the Benin Republic, is roughly 60 kilometers away. Between Lagos and Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, is the ancient town of Ilaro. On its permanent site, the polytechnic takes up a total of 898.116 hectares of land.
Ilaro and the polytechnic can be reached through the Abeokuta-Lagos Road via Papalanto (22 km) or the Abeokuta-Owode Road via Ibese (10 km), the Sango-Ota-Idiroko Road via Owode (15 km), and the Sagamu-Obele Road via Papalanto (22 km) routes from Lagos and Sagamu, respectively. The Federal Polytechnic in Ilaro is conveniently close to a major highway. In the township of Ilaro, there is a railroad station.
The East and West campuses of the Polytechnic are two separate campuses that are shown in the institution’s master plan. The Main Library, Directorate of Student Affairs, Medical Center, Polyconsult and Industrial Services, Post Office, Works and Services Department, Petrol Station, Staff Schools (Nursery, Primary, and Secondary), Student Computer Center, School of Applied Science, School of Management Studies, Ilaro Polytechnic Microfinance Bank Ltd, United Bank of Africa Plc, and Skye Bank are among the infrastructure facilities on the East campus.
The Schools of Engineering and Environmental Studies, the Main Administrative Building and Annexes, the Record and Data Control Unit, the Information and Communication Technology [ICT] Center, the Physical and Academic Planning Unit, the Central Examination Building, the Library Annex, the Multi-purpose Hall, Public Toilets, Staff Quarters, the Guest House, the Dam, and the Waterworks are all located on the West Campus as well. Together with the 500-seat Auditorium, this property also houses the Entrepreneur Development Center, the Mass Media Studios Building, and other buildings.
Internal motorable paved roads with street lighting and pedestrian-friendly sidewalks connect the two campuses. The campuses’ buildings are connected by pedestrian walkways, and in key locations there are well-kept lawns with lovely landscaping. There is room for expansion because just a small percentage of the Polytechnic’s netire land area is physically occupied now.

The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, or FPI, is a polytechnic with its headquarters in Ogun State in southwest Nigeria.
A Master plan was created for the institution at the outset, and it has aided in its growth, particularly in the first few years after it was founded. The master plan has since been reviewed to reflect the present level of funding and vital needs in light of the country’s economic downturn. As a result, the updated plan is currently used to steer the institution’s development.
The general standards for sanitation and upkeep are good. The work and services department at the polytechnic is still able to handle the proper and routine maintenance of buildings, roads, vehicles, and electrical installations and appliances with the help of a full complement of certified technical staff and a sanitary inspection officer. Septic tanks and soak-away pits can be moved with the help of suitable infrastructure, and the system in place for disposing of solid waste is adequate.
The Polytechnic has lockable gates at all entries, professional security officers, and regulated entry. In case of a fire, the institution’s fire service is on hand at key locations across the campus with fire extinguishers and sand buckets. The polytechnic does, in fact, enjoy a respectable level of safety and security. The Polytechnic keeps an insurance coverage with NICON, IGI, and other companies as a backup to protect its assets.
