About The University

The Imo State University (IMSU) in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria was established in 1981 through law No. 4 passed by the Imo State House of Assembly. The university admitted the first intake of 392 pioneer students on 23 October 1981.

After the creation of Abia State in 1991, the Uturu campus of the university became the Abia State University.

Imo State University is a fully functional university. Most of the programs of the university have obtained full accreditation from National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria.

The result of the 1999/2000 accreditation exercise of the National Universities Commission (NUC) confirmed the high rate and acceptance of the university by the Nigerian public. The university was ranked first among all state universities in Nigeria and the 10th overall among both state and federal universities. Imo state indigenes in Imo State University were granted free education during the tenure of the then Governor Rochas Okorocha but the programme stopped in 2016. This was announced by the Acting Vice Chancellor of IMSU, Professor Adaobi Obasi through the Registrar, Professor Emeka Ejinkonye, who stated that the students of Imo origin would henceforth pay a token for certain services in the school.

What is Post UTME Score?

After every UTME exercise, the exam body sets a particular mark {e.g., 120}. This mark is a score a candidate must have or cross to qualify him or her to sit for the chosen school’s POST UTME exercise.

This said mark is announced to all schools to enable them to decide the number of candidates they will admit. After the school’s decision, they announce a particular mark that must not be lower than the mark the UTME body fixed.

Any candidate who crosses the mark set by the UTME body and does not reach the chosen school’s mark is NEVER eligible to sit for the school’s POST UTME.

This mark or score set by the school admission board is known as SCHOOL’S CUT-OFF MARK.

What is Aggregate Score ?

Aggregate scores are calculated by finding the sum of all those subjects whose marks have to be considered, and then dividing the sum by total marks. The final result is then multiplied with 100, which gives the aggregate percentage.

How to Calculate IMSU Aggregate Score

To correctly calculate your aggregate, know that the JAMB Examination is made up of 400 marks, whereas the Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU)  Post UTME is made of 100 marks.

• Divide your JAMB score by 8,
• Divide your Post UTME score by  2,
• Add up the result.

If Tina scored 240 in her JAMB and 80 in her Post UTME, then her Aggregate score can be gotten by following these steps.

240/8= 30

80/2= 40

40+ 30= 70

Tina’s aggregate score is 70.

IMSU General Cut Off Mark

Imo State University (IMSU) has announced the cut-off mark of 160 for the 2023/2024 academic session. Established in 1981, IMSU offers fully accredited courses, including ACCOUNTANCY, ENGINEERING, NURSING, LAW, etc. Candidates with UTME scores of 160 or above are eligible to apply for these courses.

IMSU Nature Of Admission Screening

ELIGIBILITY

• Candidates who chose Imo State University, Owerri as their first choice and scored a minimum of 150 in the UTME.
• Candidates who did not choose Imo State University as their first choice university but scored the required cut-off mark may also apply on the condition that they visit the JAMB website and change their institution of first choice to Imo State University, Owerri.
• Direct Entry candidates must be holders of OND/HND/First Degree, A’ Level or their equivalents in relevant disciplines and subjects.

HOW TO APPLY

• Visit the University website at: www.imsu.edu.ng and click on admissions on the top menu of the homepage.
• You will be directed to the admission section of the portal, click on apply for 2021/2022 Post-UTME/Direct Entry and select either Post-UTME or Direct Entry.
• Sign up with your JAMB registration number, email, phone number and password.
• Verify your email from your email account and return to the portal to pay the Post-UTME/Direct Entry application fee of N2,000.
• Pay with your card online or generate the reference number and go to any bank branch of your choice to pay physically at the bank, and then come back to continue with your application.
• If you made the payment successfully, you would be asked to click to continue your application and at this point, you will access the application form.
• Fill the form completely and correctly and then click submit at the bottom of the form.
• If you were unable to complete your application for any reason, you can always return to the admission portal: https://admissions.imsu.edu.ng to log in to your account and complete your application before the closing date.
• After submitting your application form, print the acknowledgement slip and come with it to the University on the Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening day to be announced by the University subsequently.

DIRECT ENTRY CANDIDATES

In addition to the online application, Direct Entry candidates must also ensure that their OND/HND/First Degree transcripts, O’ and A’ Level result(s) or their equivalents are forwarded to the Registrar, Imo State University, Owerri on or before 10th November 2021. Any candidate whose transcript is not received before the stipulated period will not be considered for Direct Entry admission.
