The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation offers the Dell Scholars Program, which includes a college scholarship and a lot more. The Dell Scholarship Program, which was established in 2004, is a scholarship and college completion initiative that aids individuals from impoverished communities in realizing their academic goals.

You will get specialized support systems as a Dell Scholar, along with resources that are suitable for you. Also, you’ll be a member of a sizable support system made up of Dell Scholars personnel, peer mentors, and other students.

Also, you have a great deal of freedom in how you spend your prize money.

  • A $20,000 bursary (available for at least 6 years). The money can be used to cover undergraduate and graduate school tuition and fees, student debt repayment, study abroad options, as well as internship stipends!
  • Resources for individualized support that lessen the financial, emotional, and academic pressures that might make it challenging to complete college
  • A 4-year warranty for a laptop
  • Access to the Scholars Resources Network, which links students and their families to services for stress treatment, debt management, childcare, etc.

The Dell Scholars Program aims to provide students with continuous and ongoing support from the moment they get their award until the day they graduate.

For whom is the Dell Scholarship Program available?
The Dell Scholarship is undoubtedly a fantastic opportunity, but are you qualified to apply?

The Dell Scholars Program is less concerned about your GPA or standardized test scores than many other scholarships, which is the first thing to know. They are searching for grit and promise, qualities that aren’t necessarily apparent from your academic performance.

So, in order to call yourself a Dell Scholar, you must be in compliance with the following criteria:

  • Have U.S. citizenship
  • Throughout your junior and senior years of high school, take part in a college readiness program that has been authorized by Dell Scholars.
  • This year, graduate from a high school with accreditation.
  • A GPA of 2.4 or above
  • In your first year of college, be qualified to earn a Federal Pell Grant (and demonstrate a need for financial assistance)
  • After graduating from high school, make plans to enroll full-time in a bachelor’s program at a recognized college or university.

Conditions for Applying for the Dell Scholarship

The online Dell Scholars application must be completed in its entirety as the first step (see below for help with this). You must be familiar with the following details in order to complete this application:

  • Personal data about you (name, address, phone number, email, etc.)
  • GPA
  • Information on a high school transcript (courses, grades). You only need to use the information from your transcripts at this point; you won’t have to turn them in until you’re a semi-finalist.
  • Top three college picks
  • SAT and ACT scores
  • Planned major
  • A few basic facts about your parents (e.g. their employment status, marital status, etc.)
  • Information on how to reach a personal advocate (who will not be contacted unless you advance to a semi-finalist)

You might receive word that you’ve been chosen as a semi-finalist after submitting your application (nice!). If so, the following is what you must provide:

  • A FAFSA must be completed in order to generate a comprehensive Student Aid Report (SAR) (see here for instructions). The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is the initial step in applying for government financial aid.

All of your application materials will be examined by a committee after being submitted before a decision is made.

Holding a Dell “GPA”
Although the Dell Scholars Program needs a minimum GPA of 2.4, it looks for much more in applicants. They have developed their own, distinctive “GPA” because they think that potential is expressed in more than simply numbers.

You need to show that you have the following “GPA” in order to be a strong candidate:

By conquering obstacles in your life that are connected to your family, school, or community, you demonstrate grit.

POSSIBILITY by taking part in college readiness programs and pursuing rigor in the classroom

ACHIEVEMENT through the desire to earn a college degree

The foundation of your entire application is made up of these qualities. You will have a lot more chance of winning if you can demonstrate that you have these attributes!

The beautiful thing about the Dell Scholarship is that it’s not simply a cheque to pay for school; it’s a strong support structure that gives students resources throughout their time in college and ensures they graduate with a degree in their desired field.

The program’s goal is to offer scholarships and other academic opportunities to individuals who have overcome challenges or encountered obstacles to academic success but who have shown promise and drive. Many people enroll in college for the first time in their families. One of our personal favorites is: You may learn more about the Dell Scholars Program, including the program’s basic values, at:

Even if they don’t stand out based on standard evaluation criteria like GPAs, test scores, and extracurricular activities, students who push themselves academically can thrive in college.

Almost 4,800 scholars have received assistance from the Dell Scholars Program to date. Only 20% of students who fit the Dell profile typically complete college in six years or less. Nonetheless, in that period, 80% of Dell Scholars graduate!
