The University of Port Harcourt, also known as Uniport, is a university in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. It is owned by the federal government. Since it opened in 1975, the university has grown to become one of the best in Nigeria. It has several schools and departments that offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs.

UNIPORT School Fees
The fees are split into two groups: those who are from Rivers State and those who are not from Rivers State.
For programs for university freshmen:
The tuition for people who were born in Rivers State runs from N110,500 to N128,000, while it costs between N160,000 and N170,000 for people who were not born in Rivers State. Because of the nature of the classes and the need for special equipment, Dentistry, Nursing, and Physiotherapy have higher tuition fees.
For Postgraduate Programs:
The tuition costs run from N92,000 to N116,000 for people who were born in Rivers State, and from N142,000 to N166,000 for people who were born outside of Rivers State. The level of study and the school also affect the fees for postgraduate programs.
It is important to note that the fees mentioned above are only for tuition. They do not include fees for housing, acceptance, departmental fees, or other fees. Students should go to the university’s website or call the school to get a full list of fees for the course they want to take.
UNIPORT Admission Requirements
Here are some general needs to get into Uniport for both undergraduate and graduate school:
Undergraduate Admission Requirements:
- Candidates must have at least five (5) credit passes in relevant courses, such as Math and English Language, from WAEC/NECO/NABTEB/GCE, with no more than two attempts.
- The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) must be passed with a score of at least 180, and the first pick must be Uniport.
- Those who didn’t pick Uniport as their first choice can apply for the university’s extra screening for entry.
- Candidates must take part in the post-UTME screening exercise at the university and get the minimum cut-off mark for the course they want to take.
- Those who want to get in through Direct Entry (DE) must have at least two A-level passes or the equivalent in relevant courses.
Postgraduate Admission Requirements:
- Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree from a well-known university with at least a second-class lower division.
- Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) applicants may be accepted if they have a Bachelor’s degree with a third-class grade.
- Candidates must have passed at least five (5) O-Level subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
- In the university’s screening test for postgraduate entry, candidates must get at least a 50%.
- For the Master’s degree program, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least a second-class upper division, and for the Ph.D. program, candidates must have a Master’s degree in a related area.
UNIPORT Hostel Accommodation
The costs of staying in a hostel at Uniport depend on the type of hostel and how long you plan to stay. Most of the time, the fees are fair and easy to pay. Here are the prices to stay in a hostel
Men’s Hostel Rooms: This is a typical hostel for male students. The cost to stay in the hotel for a session is N20,000.
Female Hostel Rooms: This is a typical hostel for women students. The cost to stay in the hotel for a session is N20,000.
Accommodations for Medical Students in a Hostel: This hostel is just for medical students. The cost to stay in the hostel for a session is N40,000.
Postgraduate Hostel Accommodation: This hostel is for students who are in their second or third year of graduate school. The cost to stay in the hotel for a session is N30,000.
