About the school

In April of 1976, the Jigawa state College of  education gumel  was established, and it was initially located in Kano. On February 25, 1980, it was moved to its permanent location in Gumel, as per the directive of the civilian governor of Kano State. Subsequently, on July 1, 1987, the administration of the College was centralized with that of six other colleges that were under the jurisdiction of the Kano State Institute for Higher Education. Under the edict of 1987 that established the Kano State Colleges of Education, the then-Kano State College of Education was established. It was comprised of the old Advanced Teachers’ College Gumel and Kumbotso, Kano.On the 24th of December in 1991, the College was automatically switched over to Jigawa State as a result of the formation of Jigawa State from Kano State. The College was officially established by an edict that was issued in the year 1992. With the goal of being a centre of excellence that prepares teachers of the highest calibre for the basic education schools in Jigawa State, the College has set its sights on becoming established.
