About The School

Niger State College of Education Minna has a long and storied history. It was established in 1973 to help meet the need for qualified teachers in Niger State. At first, the college only offered NCE programs in a few subjects, but it grew rapidly over the years.

By 1975, additional departments were added, including English, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies. The college received full accreditation from the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) in 1978, allowing it to award the NCE to its first set of 59 graduates.

In 1985, the college began offering degree programs, starting with the Bachelor of Arts in Education (B.A. Ed). Additional degrees were added in the 1990s and 2000s in fields like Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Business Education. Post-graduate diploma programs were also introduced to provide further education for working teachers.

With the growth in programs came growth in infrastructure and enrollment. New lecture halls, laboratories, hostels, and staff quarters were constructed. Student enrollment rose to over 5,000, and the number of academic departments increased to more than 20.

To reflect these changes, the college was upgraded to a College of Education in 2007. In 2016, it was renamed Niger State College of Education Minna. Today, it remains one of the top colleges of education in Nigeria, producing high-quality teachers and educators. Its alumni can be found teaching in schools across Niger State and beyond.

From humble beginnings, Niger State College of Education Minna has developed into an institution of higher learning that serves an important purpose in training teachers, facilitating learning, and shaping young minds.
