Isa kaita college of education was founded by Colonel Yahaya John Madaki, the state’s military governor, founded the college in 1991 under the name College of Education (Technical) Dutsin-ma, primarily to address the lack of science and technical teachers available for the NCE at the time. It became a comprehensive Teacher Training Institution in 1994 when it was transformed into a conventional college and the main technical department was moved to Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic. The college was then renamed Isa Kaita College of Education by the Civilian Government of Alhaji Sa’idu Barda in 1995 in honour of the late Alhaji Isa Kaita, Wazirin Katsina and former First Republic Minister of Education in the former Northern Region Government, for his immeasurable contributions to education and the nation as a whole.

The college should have started off with a school system in accordance with the NCCE’s standards, but because of its infancy, size, inadequate infrastructure, and small student body, it applied for and was granted permission by the Commission to run a departmental system in the hopes that it would eventually develop into a fully functional school.
